One of the most important facts in sales is that people only buy from people that they like and trust. Think about this for a minute… don’t you only do business with people you like?
Most people only develop relationships with people that they like. And that’s true in sales and MLM prospecting as well.
I didn’t appreciate this simple fact for a long time. But when I finally thought about it and began to apply it to my business, I started being more successful.
I thought I was a likable enough person so I thought it would be easy to get my prospects to like me. But there’s more to it than that.
So it’s important that you understand how to get people to like you, trust you and want to do business with you. MLM success doesn’t come from telling everyone about the products or services you have to offer. It’s easier said than done.
Getting people to like you and to trust you comes from giving to your prospects. The more your prospects trust you, the more credibility you have with these prospects. The main thing here is to give more than you get.
You must give your prospects something of value before you can ask for them to purchase anything. And sales statistics show that few customers buy on their first contact.
In fact, 80% of sales are made after the fifth contact. So you must be willing and able to keep giving until you’ve made the sale.

1. Listening is the key to building a successful relationship… and it’s the key to “Natural Selling,” as explained by Michael Oliver. Listening will help you find out exactly what your prospect wants.
The sales process is all about the prospect, not about you. Put their needs first.
When you’re having a conversation with a person, be an active listener. Listen for understanding what they mean, not to plan your response. Clarify what their problems are by asking more questions.
2. You will seem like an expert in your field if you’re able to recommend a solution that solves their problem. You may or may not have a solution… only active listening will reveal whether you have an appropriate solution to recommend. There’s no such thing as “one size fits all” in MLM prospecting.
3. How do you get your prospects to follow your recommendations? This happens once you have gained enough credibility with your prospects.
The more trust you have established with your prospect, the higher your recommendation credibility. So you must build more trust with them.
4. How do you build more trust? By giving more value. Usually people are searching for information. In fact, they are starved for good quality information.
If you can provide valuable information, then your prospects will start to trust you. This is how you establish yourself as a trusted advisor in the eyes of your prospect.
Once you become a trusted advisor, your prospects are more likely to follow your recommendations… and that’s when you make sales. So the key to more sales is more trust through more value given… for free. You must give before you get.
