Can SSRIs Cure Premature Ejaculation?
If you have a headache you take a pill. If your nose is running you use nose spray. If you are depressed you take some mood drug to cheer you up. This behavior has become more and more normal.
Most of the times the side effects of these drugs are an ugly little secret big pharma does not want to talk about. But there are rare exceptions when the side effects are become a interested for people for whom they can actually be of help. This is very much the case with the rather new generation of antidepressants called SSRI that hit the shelves in the early nineties.
While doctors were happy to have a drug that had dramatically reduced side effects compared to what they used to have male patient experienced a surprise in the bedroom. The men that tried the new drug reported that the lasted significantly longer during intercourse. This effect has later been scientifically proven.
In which way exactly SSRIs influence the moment of ejaculation is not 100% clear. What is known so far is that the higher concentration of serotonin in the bloodstream which the drugs cause helps with avoiding premature ejaculation.
The price to pay
So if SSRIs can cure premature ejaculation…is there a price you pay for it besides the costs for the pills? There definitely is and the price is steep. As I already said SSRIs have fewer side effects than other antidepressants but that does not mean much. Antidepressants have been infamous for their very severe side effects for a long time.
Before giving you an overview I want to warn you about the nastiest thing when you try SSRI to cure premature ejaculation. The SSRI need about 6 - 8 weeks to become fully effective in fighting premature ejaculation. The side effects however can start as early as the first week you take them. So thus might need to plough through them and tolerate delayed gratification.
With this said I want to start outlining some of the side effects, starting with the most servere ones that are also least likely to occur.
- Tremors (uncontrollable shaking of hands and/or legs)
- Sudden weight gain or loss
- Not being able to pee
- Thoughts of suicide
- Problems with getting an erection
Please note that this list is not complete but just want to give you a brief overview of some of the most disturbing side effects you might suffer from in case you are unlucky.
It is more likely that you will experience of the following effects that are pretty frequent but less severe:
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Strange dreams
- Higher sensitivity to sunlight
- Changes in appetite
In case you are still willing to go this route the next question is from where to obtain the SSRIs if you are not suffering from depression. The most healthy and sane way is to find a physician that understands you problem and is willing to prescribe them to you. This way you have a competent expert by your side that can help you with the side effects.
The more risky and not recommended route is using an internet pharmacy to send you the SSRIs without prescription. I want to warn you that you might break local law doing this and will therefore not advice you to do it.
